American Chemical Society—Student Affiliate

Virginia State University Chemistry Majors are members of the American Chemical Society (ACS) student affiliate. The mission of the affiliate is to promote chemistry in the local community. The ACS provides guidance for careers and professional opportunities for students to network and showcase their research. For more information: http://acs.org/undergrad 

The VSU, ACS student affiliate is very active, participating annually in national chemistry week at the Science Museum of Virginia, the Fool for the Arts Festival in Chesterfield County, Christmas Angel Tree and the Girls in Science event sponsored by DuPont. Most recently the students were awarded the Undergraduate Student Affiliate Grant to sponsor the Undergraduate program at the Southeastern Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society.

Chemistry Club

A student led organization for students with its members involved in community service activities such as on campus tutoring, peer mentoring by senior students; participants and facilitators at the annual Chemistry Day; and presenters at the VSU Kids’ Tech University Symposium. In addition it is also used as a forum to bring together all the chemistry majors.
